Our Community
B’ShERT is engaged in the Prospect Park South/Ditmas Park community, in Brooklyn, and in the worldwide Jewish community we share. In our immediate neighborhood we cooperate with CAMBA and other human service organizations to support their missions of help and healing. We participate in the Brownstone Brooklyn Congregations alliance and the Brooklyn Interfaith Coalition, co-sponsoring the annual Interfaith Thanksgiving and community observances of Yom HaShoah. We are a member congregation of the URJ and ARZA, and we welcome our young Shinshinim (year of service participants) as they spend a year abroad from Israel between high school and their national service.
Temple Committees & Board
Want to help out, but don’t know where to start? We bet there’s a committee with your name on it! Click for brief descriptions and names of committee chairpeople, who can always be reached via our office.
- Board of Trustees — our board is the main governance body for the synagogue, and members are elected by term according to our bylaws. Monthly board meetings are normally open to the congregation except in special circumstances. Our Executive Board, consisting of key officers and Vice Presidents, also meets monthly.
Our affiliates include Temple Brotherhood and Women of B’ShERT: A Sisterhood Organization. Our Temple Youth Group is affiliated with NFTY-NAR.
