Families @ B’ShERT

Come As You Are

When we say “family” at B’ShERT, we mean it in the most expansive sense. We welcome families of every size, shape and Jewish background to become part of our community, including multigenerational families, interfaith families, families with members outside Brooklyn or NYC, LGBTQAI+ families, and many more.

If your Jewish journey is just beginning or if it is continuing to grow and evolve, we want to be a part of it.

B’ShERT’s Religious School is a welcoming and inclusive program that provides our children with an understanding and love for Judaism and its traditions. Children learn to appreciate the richness of Jewish heritage and to embrace the values of the Jewish faith.

We approach every child as an individual—from personalized Hebrew instruction to enabling them to help conduct Shabbat morning services. Our focus on each child successfully integrates children with special needs.

If you are interested in enrolling your child, fill out our interest form or enroll directly via our online portal.

Questions or comments? Please let us know. You can also reach our educator, Jessie Sander, at educator@bshert.org or via our office.

Family Activities & Events

We love spending time together as a community, so please join us at some of these family-friendly events.

December 8-9, 2023 Latke Fun Together Weekend

Come to our lineup of family events that’ll leave you saying, “Hey, Gimel more!” We start Friday morning with Tot Shabbat, welcome new kids to try the religious school during the open house Saturday morning, and end with Havdalah and candle-lighting Saturday night.

January 27, 2024 9:45 am: Tu B’Shevat Seder

Continue building B’Shert’s Jewish Climate movement work by joining us for the holiday of the trees. We’ll be planting some seeds, learning about Tu B’Shevat, and having a short family-friendly seder for less-famous seder holiday.

March 23, 2024 11:00 am: Our epic Purim Carnival is back!

Come in costume for the megillah reading then join us for lunch and our Purim carnival. Games and prizes galore, plus a costume parade and arts and crafts activities. It’s an absolute blast, and most kids’ favorite event at B’ShERT.

Coming Soon! (We’ll post the details when we have them)

A board game event with the B’ShERT Brotherhood for a Sunday in January/February.

Learn about our religious school in May with open houses at members’ homes and an open house day at the school.
