Families @ B’ShERT

Come As You Are

When we say “family” at B’ShERT, we mean it in the most expansive sense. We welcome families of every size, shape and Jewish background to become part of our community, including multigenerational families, interfaith families, families with members outside Brooklyn or NYC, LGBTQAI+ families, and many more.

If your Jewish journey is just beginning or if it is continuing to grow and evolve, we want to be a part of it.

B’ShERT’s Tot Shabbat program is expanding! During the school year, join our song leader, Daniel Keitel on Saturdays at 10 am for a half hour of Shabbat song and ritual, ideal for babies through Pre-K. Rabbi Hoover hosts Tot Shabbat on Fridays at 10 am to welcome Shabbat with a 30-minute song-filled experience, perfect for babies through toddlers.

B’ShERT’s Religious School is a welcoming and inclusive program that provides our children with an understanding and love for Judaism and its traditions. Children learn to appreciate the richness of Jewish heritage and to embrace the values of the Jewish faith.

We approach every child as an individual—from personalized Hebrew instruction to enabling them to help conduct Shabbat morning services. Our focus on each child successfully integrates children with special needs.

If you are interested in enrolling your child, fill out our interest form. If you’re already a member, you can enroll directly via our online portal.

Questions or comments? Please let us know. You can also reach our educator, Lizzy Peters, at educator@bshert.org or via our office (718-282-1596).

Family Activities & Events

We love spending time together as a community, so please join us at some of these family-friendly events.

September 6, 2025 9:30 am: First Day of Religious School

Brunch and some getting-to-know-each other time for the adults, while the kids head to the first day of class. Then we will all come together for Shabbat Services at 11 am.

September 23 at 1:30 am: Rosh Hashanah Family Service & Tashlich

Our tradition at B’ShERT is to follow our family service with a walk to Prospect Park, a Tashlich service to throw away our sins, and then casual socializing (and field games) in the park. Kids and parents get to know each other at the start of the new year.
